REIGNING IN LIFE What’s so Amazing about Grace? IX Through Grace

Romans 5:17 17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

# One The Purpose of the gift of Salvation in Christ is not just to take us to heaven. It’s for us to have abundant (plentiful, copious, flourishing, rich, plenteous, overflowing, profuse) life here and now; and helping others experience the same.

Galatians 3:8-9 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed." 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

#Two The central message of the Gospel is the blessing of eternal life in Christ. What God told Abraham; that he’d be so blessed so much so that the whole world would be blessed through him, is what He says to us today, and that’s the Gospel.

Galatians 3:10-12 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." 11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith." 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but "the man who does them shall live by them."

#Three This blessing cannot be accessed by fulfilling God’s demands as stipulated in the law, in fact to attempt that leads to the exact opposite: the curse. Pleasing God is not difficult, it’s impossible! That’s why we need a Savior.

Galatians 3:13-14 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

#Four Our Savior Jesus took up the curse that comes with failing to keep the law, and fulfilled the law on our behalf at Calvary. Here’s why He did it: that the blessing of Abraham might come upon all those who are in Him.

Galatians 3:15-16 15 Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man's covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. 16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ.

#Five The promises that God made to Abraham were in effect being made to Christ who is the Seed. Since we are coheirs with Christ, it means we have inherited those same promises; and this was about dominion in the world, not escaping to heaven.

Galatians 3:17-18 17 And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

# Six This blessing was given as a promise, and it had no strings attached. We must undo all the strings and chains (fulfilling certain demands) that we’ve put around this abundant life and go back to the simplicity of the Gospel.

Galatians 3:21-25 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

#Seven The law did two things: One, it was a preserving factor for the Israelites through whom our Savior would come. Second, it showed everyone the impossibility of accessing this blessing by trying. There was to be only one way; Christ.

Galatians 3:26-29 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

#Eight All who are in Christ are Abraham’s seed and access these promises equally, without consideration of social status, sex or race. This promise friends is not about escaping to heaven, but rather reigning in life, both now and forever.

Romans 4:13 13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Psalms 82:8 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth; For You shall inherit all nations.

Revelation 11:15 15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!"

Ephesians 1:9-10 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth — in Him.
