Spiritual authority Crucifix Rod (Heb. šēḇeṭ, maṭṭeh, maqqēl, ḥōṭer; Gk. rhábdos).† Any kind of substantial branch or stick used as a weapon (Isa. 10:26), as an instrument of miracleworking and magic (so “Aaron’s rod,” Exod. 4, 7–8; Num. 17, 20), or for corporal punishment (e.g., Exod. 21:20; 2 Sam. 7:14; Ps. 89:32; Prov. 14:3; 2 Cor. 11:25; cf. Deut. 25:2–3). The “rod” (šēḇeṭ) and “staff” of the shepherd (Ps. 23:4) are, respectively, a club for driving away predators (Ezek. 20:37) and the shepherd’s crook used for guiding the sheep Myers, A. C. (1987). God – The I AM has manifested His authority through many different ways Noah’s ark Ark of Covenant shout / song Brazen Alter verbal command shadow hem of a garment mud cross and serpent cloak A foot step hand writing rod, a term representing several different words in Hebrew and Greek and referring to several functions in antiquity. The beloved Twenty-third Psalm contains the famous reference to ‘thy [God’s] rod and thy staff, they comfort me’ (v. 4). The imagery is that of a shepherd caring for a flock. The rod refers in this particular instance to a type of club with which to defend the flock, and the staff is a longer rod or pole upon which the shepherd could lean or with which he could guide the flock. The following references give some idea of the range of meanings associated with the term in the Bible: 1 A staff for travelers (Gen. 32:10; Mark 6:8). 2 An instrument for punishment; it was used by a father to punish his son (Prov. 13:24; 22:15) or an officer to beat a prisoner (Matt. 27:26; see 2 Cor. 11:25). 3 A symbol of authority (Judg. 5:14; Gen. 49:10). Moses’rod was a symbol of his office and evidence of the divine authority for his actions. With this rod Moses performed wonders in Egypt and even instructed Aaron to use his for similar purposes (Exod. 4:1-5; 7:8-24; 14:16). By striking the rock at Horeb with his rod Moses provided water for the Israelites in the wilderness (Exod. 17:1-7). When there was a dispute over the authority to lead the people, Moses took Aaron’s rod and placed it in the tabernacle along with others representing the leading families of the nation. Aaron’s rod budded and produced almonds, signifying the authority vested in his line (and that of Moses) by God. 4 Something used to measure distances (Ezek. 40:3, kjv; rsv: ‘reed’). Achtemeier, P. 8 Before Moses Exodus 3 : 4 - 6
4 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” 6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God God revealed himself to a Jewish man who was both blind and deaf to spiritual things!

This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

10 BEFORE the People of ISRAEL
Exodus 4: 1 – 5      Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ” 2 So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” 3 And He said, “Cast it on the ground.”

11 Exodus 4: 1 – 5      3 And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), 5 “that they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” Gen. 30:37 1. 12 BEFORE the People of ISRAEL
Exodus 4 : 28 – 31      28 So Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which He had commanded him. 29 Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people. 31 So the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped. God revealed himself to a people who had been praying but who were with out hope and Deaf and Blind spiritually

13 BEFORE PHARAOH Exodus 6: 28 --- 7:2
28 And it came to pass, on the day the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 that the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “I am the Lord. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you.” 30 But Moses said before the Lord, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh heed me?” 7     So the Lord said to Moses: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you.

14 Exodus 7: 9 – 12     you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ” 10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. 12 For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. God revealed himself to a pharaoh who was dead spiritually And established his man in authority

15 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” …
Red Sea Exodus 14: 13-18 13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” … God reveals himself to his people in power and establishes Moses’ authority

16 Exodus 14: 13-18 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” … 16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 18 Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

17 The Rock Exodus 17: 2 – 4     but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?” 3 And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” 4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!” Reveals himself again and brings protection Establishes Moses agian

18 Exodus 17: 5 – 7 5 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

19 The Rock Numbers 20 : 2 Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron. 3 And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died when our brethren died before the Lord! 4 Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here? 5 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.” OOOOPS Moses mis-uses his rod --

20 7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Numbers 20 : 6 So Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and they fell on their faces. And the glory of the Lord appeared to them.” 7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 8 “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.” 9 So Moses took the rod from before the Lord as He commanded him.

21 (our heart’s attitude) and absolute obedience (our outward actions).
Numbers 20 : 10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, ”Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” 11 Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. 12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” Watchman Nee God’s Authority is absolute, hence we must give Him absolute submission (our heart’s attitude) and absolute obedience (our outward actions). To His delegated authorities we can render our hearts attitude in submission, but only relative obedience. For their authorities are circumscribed by the measure of the life of Christ in them. Only when they themselves submit to God’s Authority in them are they able to represent God. He gives a concept here but we need to be very careful before we do not submit to God’s delagated authority

22 “I, too, am a man under authority.”
Ability to stand in authority is directly related to submission to the Lord. “I, too, am a man under authority.”

23 at all times and with all my heart!
The controversy of the universe is centered on --- who will have authority --- My conflict with Satan and the KOD is the direct result of my submission to THE AUTHORITY OF GOD To maintain GOD’s authority I must be subject to his authority at all times and with all my heart!
