Improving workforce training and development is a major key to keeping people in the medical field. The goal was to establish a multi-stakeholder workforce advisory committee. The goal for this group is basically trying to get a keep more people in the medical field. Because if there is a decrease in interest for going into the medical field that will mean less and less doctors, physical therapists, nurses, the list goes on and on. Less workers in the field means that it will be harder to get an appointment. And of course it would cause prices to significantly increase for care. The Workforce

Workforce advisory committee This committee has many jobs which include: providing recommendations to congress on healthcare goals, and priorities. Make sure the workforce supply stays high. look at education and training to see if there is still a demand for more health workers. finance education and training for careers in the medical field. This committee is also responsible for an annual report on a few different things like: supply and demand for more health care workers. education in healthcare projections. How the federal government is affecting the workforce. scholarship programs for low-income, minority medical students.

Stipulations of the committee In this committee there is 15 different members with staggered three year terms. A different representative from each of these eight categories: health care workforce and health professionals, educational institutions, employers, third party payers, individuals skilled in health care services and health economics research, representatives of consumers, labor unions, state or local investment boards.

What the committee has accomplished Founded in 2010 the group’s main focus was on teaching and keeping interest in the medical field, an estimation that by 2025 we will be short 160,000 physicians is a scary thought for them. 250 million was invested in getting primary care, nursing workforce, public health workforce, adapting the workforce to the evolving needs of the people, and other things like care for the aging and loan repayment for people going into the medical field. this website describes all of these in depth. but by 2013 the committee has been inactive because it needs three million to push for new ideas. http://housedocs.house.gov/energycommerce/WORK FORCE.pdf

There have been millions of dollars used to help make improvements on disaster and public health preparedness The non profit hospitals have to give assessments every three years. Non profit hospitals income declined and many are being sold to profit companies. Indians benefit from Obamacare. Some might have a chance to qualify for Medicaid more easily.
