3 Seafarers and Bulk Carriers Bulk Carrier Fleet Growth The bulk carrier fleet Jan 2008 = 6,496 vessels. Deliveries from 2H of 2008 until 2016 is estimated to be 2,754. At Jan 2008, approximately 178,000 seafarers were employed in dry bulk trades. The demand for dry bulk seafarers is anticipated to increase about 15% between 2008 and 2012.
