PORTER’S FIVE COMPETITIVE FORCES Threat of New Entry Power of Buyers Power of Suppliers Threat of Substitutes Competitive Rivalry Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Presentation: Mario Backmon, Brandon Russell, Mark Elmore, Zachary MacMath, Amanda Melvin, and Jason Franklin

Technical Colleges Researched in South Carolina

Supplier Power Serves people with lower income. Serves the rural area of factories and farm land. Serves people with a quality two-year degree and certificate program.

Buyers Power Offer more degree programs. Provide services that other colleges don’t have. Community outreach will help get people involved in our institution.

Threat of New Entry/ Threat of Substitution If Orangeburg Calhoun Technician College can find a way to offer more degree programs, certificates and certifications, there may be a cost increase. If the cost increase could be minimized, and offer the same quality prices that the College is known for we can eliminate the threat of new business and substitution that could come to the area. This will further increase the College market share.

Competitive Rivalry Partner with the local school district technology center to help them transfer into a College setting. Add more certification and certificate courses to the College. Offer discount vouchers for many certifications that many employees can have to help them be more competitive in the job market.

Survey Question Responses How to get the rest of the school programs on the same level of the Nursing program at OC-Tech? What makes OC- Tech's RN curriculum so prominent? How do we get the these other curriculums where they need to be? How to get those kids into classes that have low income situations? How to build relationships in the beginning at OC- Tech? How do academic advisors and teachers treat the students? Do the instructors really try and help the students or do the students get ignored? What was the adjustment of working at Claflin College or Denmark then coming to OC- Tech? How to reach more people to come to the school? How to retain student? How to make the graduation rate go up? Why are students having such issues with completing courses and curriculums?
