1 Geography Local Area/ Maps Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment. Lum Head Primary School Gatley Playgrounds Maps English Speaking and listening: 1. Listen and respond appropriately to adults and their peers. 2. Ask relevant questions to extend their understanding and knowledge. 3. Maintain attention and participate in conversations, staying on topic and initiating and responding to comments. Reading: 1. Apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words. 2. Respond speedily with the correct sound to graphemes for all 40+ phonemes. 3. Listen to and discuss a wide range of stories and non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently. 4. Read accurately by blending sounds in unfamiliar words containing GPCs that have been taught. 5. Read common exception words, noting unusual correspondences between spelling and sound and where these occur in the word 7. Discuss word meanings, linking new meanings to those already known 8. Participate in discussion, taking turns and listening to others 9. Explain clearly their understanding of what is read to them. Writing transcription: Spelling 1. Spell the days of the week, words containing 40+ phonemes, common exception words 2. Name the letters of the alphabet. 3. Add prefixes and suffixes. Handwriting 1. Begin to form lower-­case letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place 2. Form capital letters, form digits 0-­9 Writing composition: Write sentences by composing a sentence orally before writing it Re-­read what they have written to check that it makes sense Discuss what they have written with the teacher or other pupils VGP: leaving spaces between words, using and, beginning to punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark, using a capital letter for names of people, places, the days of the week, and the personal pronoun ‘I’. Maths Compare, describe and solve practical problems for time (quicker, slower, earlier, later). Measure and begin to record time (hours, minutes, seconds). Recognise and use language relating to dates, days of the week, weeks, months and years. Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show times. Name and recognise 3-­D shapes. Read, write and interpret statements involving (+), (–) and (=). Using a number line. Solve one-­step problems that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals. 1-20 in words. Science Animals, including humans Identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Seasonal Changes To observe changes across the four seasons. To observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies. RE and PSHE Jesus as a friend. Was it always easy for Jesus to show friendship? SEAL: Going for Goals PE Gymnastics Become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination individually and with others. French I can greet people. I know the names of different colours. I know the days of the week. Art/DT To use drawing and painting to develop and share ideas, experiences and imagination. To explore animal patterns and incorporate the patterns into a final piece of Art/DT work. To explore and use mechanisms (leavers, sliders), in their products. Computing To use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private. To understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions. Objectives for Year 1HA Spring 1 Hakuna Matata Music To use their voices expressively and creatively by singing animal songs and speaking chants and rhymes. To play tuned and untuned instruments musically.

2 English Reading - We will be continuing the Letters and Sounds programme to develop our phonics for reading and writing working towards to phonics screening check. We will be listening to and reading a range of stories and information books about animals and our local area. Writing - Forming lowercase letters and capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, punctuation. Fairy Tales and Traditional tales Goldilocks and the Three Bears Little Red Riding Hood Three Little Pigs Instructions How to make porridge How to build a house ICT: Story boards for fairy tales, photos for instructions. Maths Counting forwards and backwards starting at any number. Write and understand simple sums involving + - and = up to 20. Name and recognise 3-­D shapes around the classroom. Data Handling, collect and record data using pictographs. Tell the time and understand the significant times of the day. Make a timetable of our day with key times. Display the clocks in the classroom. Time how long it takes to walk to school, put our coats on our pegs, do the register. Understand the importance of time. ICT: Data Handling, create pictographs on the netbooks Science Animals: Fish, Amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals Recognising animal babies Understanding animals habitats Create animal food chains Classifying animals ICT: Explore animals using the internet. Facts/Photographs, create a poster using the netbooks or iPads. RE and PSHE Was it always easy for Jesus to show friendship? What can I learn from religious traditions? Should people follow religious leaders and teachings? Church Visit ICT: Pictures to record our visit. Geography Explore our Local Area Use Maps to explore our local area, draw a map of Gatley. Label the key features. Gatley Playground Field Trip Plan a children's play area. Instructions, how to get to school, use direction language. How many steps then turn left or right, N S E W. ICT: Bee-Bots Maps, Google maps, birds eye view, photos of our local area. PE To learn basic gymnastic skills. Starting and ending position freeze, roll, jump, points, travel. Animal performance as a year group. Animal movements. ICT: Animal music circle of life, record routines and play back to improve. French We will be learning how to greet people and the days of the week in French using songs. We will be able to name colours in French. Using key words and stories. ICT: Interactive PowerPoints on iPads.. Art/DT Animal Patterns Colour mixing Split pin animals, label and reason Jungle picture with animal leavers/sliders. Animals on the leaver/slider. ICT: Photos to show methods, exploring patterns on the internet. Activities for Year 1HA Spring 1 Hakuna Matata Music Create animal noises using instruments Create a piece of music using instruments to include in our Gymnastics performance. ICT: Explore animal sounds and record sounds using the iPads
