2. WHAT IS MORPHOLOGY
Coined By J.W.Von Goethe, to designed the study of form and structure of living organisms which was taken up by linguistics in the nineteenth century as a cover term for inflection and word formation.
Morphology corresponds to the study of forms, i.e. the subdisciplines of inflection as well as of the study of word classes and their classificational criteria.

3. So, it can be concluded that “Morphology” is the study of the internal structure of word.

4. RELATION BETWEEN WORD
LOOK UP THE WORD : WALK, WALKS, WALKED, WALKING EXAMPLE :
MY FRIEND WALKED OUT YESTERDAY.
 WALKED OUT / WALK OUT
WALK, WALKS, WALKED, WALKING CAN BE QUALIFIED AS WORD FORMS OF THE LEXEME (ABTRACT SENSE) “WALK”.

5. The existence of such patterns also implies that words may have an internal constituent structure. For instance, walking can be divided into the constituents walk and -ing. Therefore, morphology deals with the internal constituent structure of words as well.

6. THE EMERGENCE OF MORPHOLOGY
Morphology has become sub-branch of linguistics in nineteen century.
Students have been aware of the importance of words.
Early in the nineteen century, morphology played role in the reconstruction of Indo- European.
1816, Franz Bopp revealed a result of a study supporting the claim made by Sir William Jonesin 1786 that sanskirt, Latin, Persian, and the Germanic languages were descended by a common ancestor.

7. Between 1819 – 1873, Grimm showed the evolution of the Grammar of Germanic language in sound systems and word formation and the relationship between Indo-European langauges.
Max Muller (1899) study of evalution of words claimed 400 – 500 basic root between Europe and Asia.
Later, morphology became as an essentially sinchronic disciplin that focuses on study of word structure rather than the evolution of word.
