5 Momentum Momentum is a quantity that is commonly conserved in an interaction. This means that the total momentum before and after an interaction (like a collision) does not change This is only true if there is no external force to impact the momentum of a system

6 Momentum With the conservation of momentum, we are going to solve multiple problems with collisions. There are two types: Elastic: the objects do not combine after hitting each other Inelastic: the objects combine after hitting each other

8 A 2,000 kg train is moving at 20m/s down a track. It smacks into and combines with another train that weighs 1,500 kg and is at rest. What is their final velocity combined?

11 A supergiant star with a mass of 25M ʘ and a radius of 1,000 R ʘ has a linear rotational speed of 5,000 km/s. After the supernova explosion, it became a neutron star with a mass of 1.5M ʘ and a radius of 1.7x10^(-5) R ʘ. What is the linear rotational speed of the neutron star?

12 Homework Finish the last problem on the worksheet. Also try the extra credit. Then the homework is: Pg 178 # 1, 2 and pg 185 #5, 6, 7. #8 is extra credit (1pt)
