Objective: Given a list, the students will describe each holiday and its importance with 100% accuracy. 3 Dr. Martin Luther king jr. Day
MLK Day is an national American holiday marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther king Jr., the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around King’s birthday, January 15th. The campaign for a federal holiday in King’s honor began soon after his assassination in1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later.

Originally established in 1855 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who gave their lives and those who perished while in service.
