Running Queries - LV This presentation describes how to run Miquest queries on the EMIS LV system. You should have already created them from the spreadsheet program and saved them to the C:\SHARED\ directory (or S:\CDSSH\ for practices with S: & H: drives not C:) or A: as a mapped location. Some people have anxieties about downloading the files to the server. As queries are simple text files and are placed in a part of the server that EMIS allow you access to over the network, this is not a problem. Using the mapped network drive to copy the queries to the server saves time and the hassle of physically having to access the machine. We suggest you get used to using macros as this will speed up the process after investing a little time.

Loading to QP From Main menu type QP to get this screen. It’s worth deleting any existing queries listed under Name by typing K, D, Y and Enter. (Just check any existing files have been finished with). If using our Macros just click DELETE Q

Loading to QP Then you are ready to transfer the queries from A: or your SHARED directory by pressing Q You should then see this at the top of the screen. Type L. If using macros you can just click LOAD Q and skip the next 2 slides

Loading to QP If you are loading the queries from A:, change Drive : C to Drive A as above then press ENTER three times If you are loading the queries from the Shared directory, change the screen as above then press ENTER. For practices with S: & H: drives use E as the drive letter not C and path as \SHARED\CDSSH\.

Loading to QP You then get a screen that looks like this. Press K to mark all the queries with an asterisk, then ENTER. When all the queries are loaded press F1 to get to the next screen.

Loading to QP For LOCAL queries the files are automatically checked and should give the ready to run message. Wait until they are all done – you should page down to check

Loading to QP Once all the queries are authorised and ready to run. Press K to mark them all with an asterisk and then S If using macros click RUN Q and skip the next 2 slides

Loading to QP Press A to set up the queries to run, which takes you to the next screen. (NB check that Scheduler is currently ON and that Halt Query says (RUNNING)

Loading to QP Press K to mark all the queries and then ENTER. Most of the time its OK to answer Y to the question. If you wish to run them later type N to this then ENTER

Loading to QP If you wish to run them overnight set the usual run time to 3.00am by pressing U Otherwise the Waiting Status will change to Running. Press F1

Loading to QP Press F1 again to get back to the main menu. The query set is now running in the background or scheduled to run later. You can continue to use EMIS as usual. Most sets take half an hour or so to process depending on how busy your system is. You can check on progress by entering QP from Main menu and checking on the messages. Once finished all the queries should have the Query Ran : Report Unauthorised message. You are now ready to download your results for analysis in house or sending elsewhere – which is the subject of the slides

Getting Results - LV This presentation describes how to download the output from the queries that you have run on the EMIS LV system. Once queries have run, files that contain the result data you are after called Response files are created. These need to be authorised and copied to either a blank floppy disc placed into the server’s A: drive or the C:\SHARED\ directory (E:\SHARED\CDSSH\ for S: or H: practices) on the server. The files created have the same name as the queries you ran except that the file extension changes from.HQL to.CSV. They can be loaded into spreadsheets for analysis. Using the network to copy the queries from the server C:\SHARED\ directory to your PC terminal saves time and the hassle of physically having to access the machine. It means you can run and analyse queries without having to leave your desk!

Getting Results – LV Having run a set, on pressing QP from Main Menu you should see a screen like this. Press K to Mark All. Then B Authorise Reports If using macros click AUTH R and skip the next slide

Getting Results - LV Press A to Authorise and enter Password (default password is eqp)

Getting Results - LV The screen should then look like this and you are now ready to transmit the response files to disc. Press R. If using our macros click TRANS R and skip the next 3 slides.

Getting Results - LV The press X to get a screen like this. If the query set you want to download is LOCAL press A or whatever letter corresponds to non- local for queries you need to send away for analysis. Then press ENTER.

Getting Results - LV Press A to Mark All and then ENTER to transmit (Xmit)

Getting Results - LV You are then asked where you want to send the queries – enter A for a BLANK floppy disc in the server NOT your PC or change the prompt to read as above to copy to the C:\SHARED\ directory (or E:\SHARED\CDSSH\ for S: & H: drive practices)

Getting Results - LV The files will then download to the place you specified. Wait until they have all finished. This can take a few minutes with a floppy or a big query set. You are now ready to analyse the queries in house or send them elsewhere.

Getting Results - LV Pressing F1 will get you back to this screen which tells you all the queries have been sent
