2 Fact #1 The “wheel of life” or “zoopraxiscope” was patented by William Lincoln in It was the first patented machine in the United States that showed animated pictures.

3 Fact #2 In 1878, a British photographer, Eadweard Muybridge, took the first successful photographs of motion, showing how people and animals move.

4 Fact #3 In , Dickson shot numerous 15 second motion pictures using Edison’s kineograph.

5 Fact #4 The Lumiere brothers were not the first to project film. In 1891, the Edison company successfully demonstrated the Kinetoscope, which enabled one person at a time to view moving pictures.

6 Fact #5 In 1893, Thomas Edison constructed the first motion picture studio in New Jersey. He also displayed his Kinetoscope at the World’s Columbian Exhibition in Chicago and received patents for his movie camera, the Kinetograph, and his peepshow device.
