1 “What Are You Thinking About?” Philippians 4:1-9 August 30, 2009

2 I. We need to have similar thinking in order to maintain fellowship. We should stand firm in the Lord. – By setting our minds on heavenly things. – By working together in unity Reconcile differences Enlist the help of others

3 I. We need to have similar thinking in order to maintain fellowship. We should agree with each other in the Lord. – We are in agreement by rejoicing in the Lord always. – We are in agreement by letting our gentleness be evident to all.

4 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should not be anxious about anything. – We should pray about everything. Anxiety comes from worry. – Worry is a product of self-absorption – Worry is unproductive The antidote to worry is to present our requests to God. – By prayer and petition – With thanksgiving

5 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should not be anxious about anything. – We should pray about everything. – The peace of God transcends understanding. It will guard our hearts It will guard our minds “in Christ Jesus”

6 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should think about excellent or praiseworthy things. – Whatever is true Opposite of falsehood True to the promises and statements we make Maintain truth about God Represent things as they are

7 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should think about excellent or praiseworthy things. – Whatever is noble Worthy of honor Dignified – Whatever is right Just is dealings with others What is right between persons

8 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should think about excellent or praiseworthy things. – Whatever is pure Pure in thought and conversation Chastity, especially with those of opposite gender – Whatever is lovely Pleasing to others Agreeable to others

9 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should think about excellent or praiseworthy things. – Whatever is admirable Truly reputable Commendable virtues: – Courtesy – Kindness – Respect

10 II. We need to have controlled thinking to maintain tranquility. We should put what we’ve learned into practice. – Follow the example given to us. What we have received from others What we have heard from others What we have seen in others – Go with the God of peace.
