3 Students applying for internships often do not know what the company is looking for (and vice versa) Why are we here? ABS FU student employer Comment: This slide is based on the JOHARI window being „A“ the „arena“ field (clear communication in both directions) and „U“ the „unknown“ area (communication is disturbed in both directions).

4 What have we done? We have interviewed students and companies in order to switch from the “unknown” to the “arena”! Collected responses of 112 international students Interviewed 17 companies Compared the results

32 Some statements „If the intern has convinced us with his performance, he directly gets an offer for his job after graduation.“  Internships can be a valuable chance for your personal career.

36 In general, companies and students expect the same from each other. However: Conclusion from our survey Students underestimate the companies’ demand for practical skills and social integration Students overestimate the companies’ need for prior work experience

37 When you head for a certain company after graduation, an internship can open you the doors Conclusion Example: 50% of Procter and Gamble‘s new managers recruited have gone through an internship with the company before.
