It’s the 18th largest island in the world. Its located in the northern Atlantic Ocean in between Europe and North America. Geologically, Iceland is part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The ridge marks the boundary between the Eurasian and North American Plates,

5 Brief History on Iceland- Beginnings
The first people to settle in Iceland were probably Irish monks who came in the 8th century. However in the 9th century they were driven out by Vikings. Norwegian Viking named Floki Vilgeroason gave the country its name- Iceland.

Today Iceland relies on fishing, sheep, cattle, and Icelandic ponies for its economy. Today Iceland is a prosperous country with a high standard of living. Today the population of Iceland is 313,000- about half the population of Milwaukee.
