2 What is a Volcanic Eruption? A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth.

3 How Does a Volcanic Eruption Form? When pressure builds up eruptions occur. Gases and rock shoot up through the opening and spill over or fill the air with lava.

4 Volcanic Eruption Facts Volcanic eruptions can trigger tsunamis, flashfloods, earthquakes, mudflows, and rockfalls. There are more than 1,500 active volcanoes on the earth. We currently know of eighty or more that are under the oceans.

11 How to Prepare Close doors, windows, and all ventilation in the house. Cover your nose and mouth to avoid breathing ash. If you live near a volcano, should have a evacuation plan. If you have ash on your roof after an eruption clean it off as fast as you can because the ash is heavy and could cause your roof to collapse.
