Baby Teeth It is still important to advocate good dental health for baby teeth. Loss of baby teeth too early can cause permanent teeth to be crooked or grow in the wrong place. Children should be taken to the dentist no later than their first birthday.

Dental concerns for children Space Maintainers: Hold the place for permanent teeth if baby teeth are lost too early. Mouth guards: Worn during sports or physical activities to protect teeth. Malocclusion (bad bite): When the teeth are crooked, crowded, or the jaws do not meet properly. Sealants: Protect cavity prone areas of teeth.

Nutrition and Dental Care Eating fruits and vegetables can be beneficial to dental hygiene by not only providing proper vitamins but also keeping teeth clean between brushings (apples). Milk provides calcium to build and keep tooth enamel strong. Avoiding sugary drinks and snacks helps lower the chances of tooth decay.

Dental Health in the Schools Dental Screenings: Check children's teeth and gums to see if they have tooth decay or gum disease. Dental Referrals: If children have tooth decay or gum disease then a note is sent home to the parent/guardian and provides a list of resources for treatment.

Basic Dental Treatments Exams Cleanings Dental sealants Silver (amalgam) and tooth colored (composite) fillings Stainless steel crowns Minor nerve treatments Extractions
