1 Integrating As-Built Policies and GIS Maintenance Procedures
By Sierk Oudemans GIS Analyst

2 Objective of GIS Maintenance

3 Types of Utility System Maintenance
Minor Major

4 Major Utility System Maintenance

5 Why so Costly? Addition of Sub-divisions affects most data layers in GIS

6 Traditional As-built Preparation and GIS Maintenance Process

7 Revised GIS Maintenance and As-built Preparation Process

8 Integrating GIS and Field Services
Feature point data collection (Survey) Additional attribute data collection

9 ? How to Get Data into GIS? Do it yourself Hire someone else to do it
Have the data prepared by the developer and import it yourself ?

10 7 Steps to Getting GIS Ready Data
Document your system Prepare an as-built specification Provide template files Develop alternatives Educate the development and engineering community Establish QC procedures Automate the import process

11 Document Your System Create a Data Model or Data Dictionary

12 Prepare an As-Built Specification and Template Files

24 Do You Have a Developers Agreement?
“The applicant’s construction engineer shall prepare and deliver one hardcopy of the “as-built” plan to the depart-ment. As a part of the “as-built” plan, the applicant’s construction engineer shall provide the information necessary for the items listed below. This information will be used to update the asset management database. The information shall be provided in digital format and be compatible with said database and be entered into the system by the applicant’s construction engineer”
