●Very little money put into healthcare ●Who cares about women? ●Rural areas make it hard to get help

Causes -There are many other causes to the poor maternal health in North Africa such as lack of skilled personnel facilities, no access to essential maternity or basic health care services, and lack of education (www.unicef.org).www.unicef.org The women in Northwest africa are also faced with the fact of not getting a proper education, and if a women in Northwest Africa is not among the wealthiest there is a one percent chance that she will get “proper” maternal health care (www.unicef.org).www.unicef.org www.waha- international.org

Causes (Cont.) Another big leading factor in the lack of effective and available maternal health care in Northwest Africa is that most of the young girls going through pregnancy don’t have any say in the size of their family, whether or not they want to have children, and where/how they will have their childbirth. 10 Solution In order to combat the issue of maternal health in Northwest Africa, the United Nations (UN) proposes that we focus on education.

Education United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO) suggest the use of pamphlets and information sessions that explain prenatal care and health risks that surround pregnancy. The thought is that if communities are properly educated, then they will be more inclined to seek the help of the provided midwives and Community Health Workers (CHW) instead of handling the pregnancy on their own. www.who.int

Education (Cont) Medic West Africa is primarily concerned with providing accredited medical education to healthcare professionals who are interested in updating and furthering their clinical knowledge and skills (africanbrandlink.com). This exhibition supports healthcare education which includes classes taught by major healthcare companies. These classes are especially beneficial for the midwives and CHWs. The 4 th edition of Medic West Africa Exhibition and Congress (MWA), organised by Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions in Lagos, Nigeria in 2014
