2.  The arrangement of details in the body of our essay is very important.  The order of importance of each detail should go from least important to most important.

3. Capitol High School should change its dress code policy so that we can carry canvas backpacks, boys can wear earrings, and students can dye their hair.  Least important: Students can dye their hair  Middle: Boys can wear earrings  Most important: Canvas Backpacks

4. STOP and WRITE  Decide the order of importance the 3 things you want to change are to you!  Least important –  Middle –  Most important -

5. First, I would rewrite my thesis sentence in this order. Capitol High School should change its dress code policy so that students can dye their hair, boys can wear earrings, and we can carry canvas backpacks.

6.  Re-write the thesis sentence in your introduction so that the least important thing is mentioned first, and the most important thing is mentioned last. STOP and WRITE

7.  Next, make sure paragraph 1, 2 and 3 of your body correspond to the order of things in your thesis sentence. Example:  Paragraph 1: Students can dye hair  Paragraph 2: Boys can wear earrings  Paragraph 3: We can carry canvas backpacks

8. Before we get started….  Transition Sentences!!!

9.  Transition sentences form bridges from one idea to the next.  They are at the end of each paragraph (except for the conclusion). The transition sentences tells you what the next paragraph is about.  GOOD writers always have a transition sentence!

10. Many schools across the United States enforce a dress code policy. Capitol High School, in Baton Rouge, is one of those schools. At Capitol High School, students may wear red or yellow shirts, and khaki pants or shorts. But, there are lots of other requirements, too. At Capitol High School, girls cannot wear big earrings, and boys cannot wear earrings at all. Also, students have to use clear or mesh backpacks. Students also have to have natural hair color only. Additionally, students can’t wear hooded jackets or sweatshirts. Some parts of the dress code are very good, but there are some things that should be changed. Capitol High School should change its dress code policy so that we can carry canvas backpacks, boys can wear earrings, and students can dye their hair. There are many reasons why students should be allowed to carry canvas backpacks.
