2 Alberta Labour Laws Your Employer is responsible for: Giving you a Statement of Earnings. This includes: The pay period covered by the statement Regular & Overtime Hours Worked Hours in lieu of overtime Wage Rate and Overtime Rate Earnings Paid (showing each seperately; wages, overtime, general holiday pay, vacation pay) Deductions from Earnings (must include reasoning- ex. CPP EI)

3 Employer must make mandatory deductions: Federal & Provincial Income Tax Employment Insurance Premiums Canada Pension Plan Contributions

4 Employer must document the Hours of Work completed by employees everyday Your Employer must establish a Pay Period (which can be daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly or monthly) Cannot be longer than one month!

5 Wages= payment for work done Earnings= Include Wages, as well as overtime, vacation, holiday and termination pay Employer must pay you at the minimum for 3 hours of work at the minimum wage Alberta’s Current Minimum Wage Rates: $10.20 per hour

6 Alberta Employment Standards Code requires that a work day be no longer than 12 Hours Employer is responsible for giving you a work schedule During work shifts that are longer than 5 consecutive hours employees are entitled to at least 1 30 Minute break

7 The Basic 8 and 44 Rule: Overtime is to be paid on all hours in excess of 8 hours a day or 44 hours a week (whichever is greater) Overtime Pay= 1.5 x regular pay
