IPv6 over IEEE 802.15.4 (6LoWPAN) BoF Wednesday, November 10, 2004 61 st IETF, Washington D.C. Jefferson East, 1530-1730

6LoWPAN BoF Title: IPv6 over IEEE 802.15.4 BOF Chairs: Geoff Mulligan Nandakishore Kushalnagar Gabriel Montenegro Mailing list To send messages to the list send to: 6lowpan@hz.com To subscribe or unsubscribe send to: 6lowpan-request@hz.com Subject: [un]subscribe The web site (mail archive and presentations) for the list is at: http://www.hz.com/6lowpan

6LoWPAN Agenda Preliminaries 5 min Chairs Motivating Scenarios George.Karayannis@helicomm.com 10 min Geoff.Mulligan@invensysclimate.com 10 min Brijesh Kumar 10 min Overview of IEEE 802.15.4 JoseGutierrez@eaton.com 15 min Introduction and Problem Statement 15 min Nandu (nandakishore.kushalnagar@intel.com) Document: draft-6lowpan-goals-assumptions.txt Transmission of IPv6 packets over IEEE 802.15.4 10 min Gabriel Montenegro Document: None yet. An IPv6 Profile for IEEE 802.15.4 15 min Geoff.Mulligan@invensysclimate.com Document: None yet. Draft of a Charter 10 min Chairs Open Discussion 20 min Chairs

Tentative 6LoWPAN Charter To define or document a minimal IPv6-based stack on IEE802.15.4 radios providing for the basic packet formats and sub-IP adaptation layer as well as simple but sufficient header compression, ad hoc (mesh) network, security model (and key management), data transport requirements, network management and L2/L3 interface/control mechanisms. The working group will reuse (perhaps adapting) existing specifications whenever reasonable and possible.

Tentative Deliverables Produce a “Problems Statement, Assumptions and Goals for Ipv6 for LoWPANs” document JAN 2005: Send to IESG as Informational Produce a “Transmission of IPv6 Packets over IEEE 802.15.4 WPAN Networks” document Framing, adaptation, header compression, address generation, etc. MAR 2005: Send to IESG as Proposed Standard Produce an “IPv6 LoWPAN Profile” document Appropriate profile as related to node-requirements Mesh (ad hoc) routing profile API (Sockets) Appropriate security services and configuration L2/L3 interface mechanism Implementation considerations JUN 2005: Send to IESG (BCP or Informational?) Other items and technologies may be added by rechartering: ultra-wide band lightweight discovery Secure bootstrapping
