2 What are the STBIP Goals? The main goal of the State Transitional Bilingual Instruction Program (STBIP) is to develop English Language Proficiency while developing academics at grade level.

3 What are the Title III Goals? Help ensure that limited English Proficient (LEP) children attain English language proficiency and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to meet the State’s academic achievement standards.

4 What Services are Provided by STBIP? Dual Language Program Develomental Bilingual Education Transitional Bilingual Education Sheltered Instruction Newcomers Program

5 What Services Are Provided by Title III? High quality language instruction programs Professional development for teachers and other staff who work with students who are limited in English proficiency (LEP)

6 Who Qualifies for These Programs? When parents indicate in their district registration forms that the home language is other than English, students are required to take a language test to determine their English language proficiency level. There are four categories. When students score a Level 4, they no longer qualify for the program.

8 Where does the funding come from? STBIP State funds Dependent on number of students who qualify for program Title III Federal funds To supplement not supplant instruction

9 How are the funds used? STBIP $1,063,332 Teachers and para educators WLPT testing materials Secretaries/interpreters Books, supplies, materials, etc.

10 How are the funds used?? Titulo III $211,496 Teachers ConeVyt Professional development for teachers & staff

11 What are the main differences? State Funds vs. Federal Funds Focus is on the professional development of teachers to ensure that students acquire English language

13 How can you help your student? Encourage him/her to practice his/her English Teach him/her language ettiquette Remind him/her the importance of learning English while still maintaining his/her native language Ask him/her to help you practice your English

14 How can you help your student? Speak to your student about the importance of focusing on doing his/her best on the WLPT language test Test is in February and March Practice, Practice, Practice
