1 Things to See in Asia By: Abbie Bokinskie

2 Summary of the Book I read the book the Breadwinner. This book is about a little Afghan girl named Parvana who lives with her once rich family. Then the Taliban came to power and everything in their lives changed. Her father gets arrested, so she has to cut her hair, change into boys clothes and work in the marketplace. She does this in order to get money for her family since women aren’t allowed to work. A few weeks later, Parvana’s father returns from prison. A few weeks after that, the Taliban conquers and massacres the inhabitants. Since Parvana’s mother is still there, Parvana and her father go back to find her mother.

3 Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China is approximately 5,500 miles. The Great Wall of China was built during the 3 rd century B.C by Emperor Shih Huang-ti. It took about 2,000 years to make. The Great Wall of China is not a continuous wall, but a series of short walls. It is included in Chinese mythology.

4 Taj Mahal The construction took twenty two years to complete, and required more than twenty two thousand workers. The building will appear to be a different color depending on what time of day it is, and whether or not there is a moon at night. There were more than one thousand elephants that were used just to haul the materials needed. The Taj Mahal one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

5 Tokyo Tower This tower is based off the Eiffel Tower and stands at 1,092 feet tall. The Eiffel Tower only stands at about 1,049 feet. The tower weighs about 4000 tons, which is light compared to the 7,000 ton Eiffel Tower. The tower functions as a radio and television broadcasting antenna. The Tokyo Tower is made of steel and took the 400 steel workers only 18 months to complete from June 1957 to December 1958.

6 Fuji Mountain Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 12,389 ft. It is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains" along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku. The last eruption of this volcano started in December of 1707 and continued until the first day of the new year in 1708. This volcanic mountain actually has a symmetrical shape. This is unusual for a mountain, and especially a volcano. Even though it has not erupted for about 300 years it is still considered an active volcano.

7 Burj Khalifa This is the tallest building in the world standing at 2,717 ft in Dubai. It has 160 floors and is the building with the most floors. It cost 1.5 billion dollars and 5 years to build it. The weight of the tall building is 500,000 tons. World's highest restaurant, located on 122nd floor at the height of 1,450 ft.
