1 CubeSat for Ions, Neutrals, Electrons and Magnetic Fields PI Robert Lin, SSL Project Manager Thomas Immel, SSL System Engineer David Curtis, SSL STEIN Scientist Davin Larson, UCB MAGIC Scientist Tim Horbury, ICL Imperial College London CINEMA

2 9 summer UCB students on CINEMA team. 3 returning now. 4 students from IAUPR and 4 from KHU visited all summer. End of summer review held with all students +4 visiting from KHU with PI Current Mass Budget: 2.7 kg (not including harnessing or thermal materials) Electrical Power – Clyde Space EPS has been tested extensively w/3U battery – 8 Solar Panels constructed, 2 of 10 flight panels now produced. V2.0 PCB design. C & DH – 3 dsPIC Dev Units, one for each of FSW, EE, and Attitude Control (ACS) groups – FSW 70-80% done Housekeeping, Transmit, Power, Background, I2C, MAG. Next more MAG, CMD and EXEC Radio Communication – S-band downlink patch antenna on 3 rd ETU: Waiting for S-band designation. – Helium Radio receiver testing underway. ACS – All Simulink code now converted to C, running on PIC. When debugging, PIC code expected to produce identical results as Simulink runs. – Flight Sun Sensors have been tested extensively, need new black paint.

3 Spacecraft Structure – Flight Model of Chassis being constructed ETA 2 weeks. – Many updates have been made in response to antenna placement, torque coil changes, harnessing issues, P-POD fit. STEIN (SupraThermal Electrons, Ions and Neutrals) – Sensor design and layout complete. Dev boards fabricated and sensors tested by KHU. MAGIC (MAGnetometer from Imperial College) – ETU sensor and test board are complete and being tested. ETA 2 weeks. – Simplified plan for sampling ADC driven by dsPIC, not FPGA state machine. Other Components – Instrument interface board laid out and quoted. Working parts list with local assembler ETA 2 weeks. – FPGA spec, and now VHDL code developed in close collaboration with Imperial College. – S-band dual patch antenna/splitter/coax mechanical and electrical ETU being fabricated for system tests before purchase of Emheiser Radio. – Actuator for UHF radio deployment redesigned – Harnessing issues drove several mm move of avionics stack.
