Images Images are raster data that overlays existing terrain Images are useful for referencing other objects in the project including features, transmitters, receivers and output Imported in rectangular regions Wireless InSite supports both GeoTiff images and Tiff accompanied with a worldfile

GeoTiffs GeoTiff is an open format for raster images with embedded georeferencing Most commonly GeoTiffs are aerial photos, satellite photos or scanned maps Have the extension.tif or.tiff

Tiffs with Worldfiles Tiffs contain no embedded georeferencing and rely on worldfiles to correctly geolocate on the earth Worldfiles contain UTM coordinates of the first pixel as well as pixel size in meters in x and y directions Have the extension.tif or.tiff

USGS DRG US Geological Survey (USGS) Digital Raster Graphics (DRG) are digitized topological maps

USGS DOQ USGS Digital Orthophoto Quadrangle (DOQ) are aerial photos Terrain shadowing and camera angle corrections have been made so images are as accurate as maps

Importing Tiffs in InSite Importing GeoTiffs does not require additional geo-referencing to be specified. Geo-referencing for Tiffs can input through a world-file or typed in manually Images can be cropped in UTM, Longitude/Latitude, Cartesian and Pixel coordinates The Fit to terrain option will automatically crop the image to fit the terrain

Image Import Windows

Image Visibility Set Active/Inactive which makes images visible or invisible The latest image loaded will be on top of other images in the project

Images Blend with the Color of the Terrain Left: light gray, Right: dark green Color by height can be used with images

Editing with Images Images are useful for editing geometry and placing transmitter sets and receiver sets

Sources for GeoTiff and Tiff Files Many images are available for free on the world wide web Others are available from data providers Tiff files for small regions are available from TerraServer (http://terraserver.microsoft.com/)
