Topic 5-1 Midpoint and Distance in the Coordinate plan

Distance Formula The Distance Formula is really just a coordinate geometry way of writing the Pythagorean Theorem. If you cannot remember the Distance Formula, you can always draw a graph and use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve the problem.

Example – Distance Formula Find the length of the line segment whose endpoints are (-3,4) and (5,4).

Example – Distance Formula Find the length of the line segment whose endpoints are (-3,4) and (5,4).

Midpoint Formula The coordinates of the midpoint are the average of the x-coordinates and the average of the y- coordinates of the endpoints.

Example – Finding Midpoint Has endpoints of E(7,5) and F(2, -4). What are the coordinates of its midpoint M?

Example – Finding Midpoint Has endpoints of E(7,5) and F(2, -4). What are the coordinates of its midpoint M?
