Physics Section 8.3 Apply the properties of flowing fluids The flow of a fluid is laminar if every particle that passes a particular point moves along the same smooth path. The flow of a fluid is turbulent if the particles experience abrupt changes in velocities or direction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p08_KlTKP50 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqqtOb30jWs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NplrDarMDF8

An ideal fluid is a fluid that has no internal viscosity and is incompressible. Viscosity is the friction between particles of a flowing fluid. An ideal fluid has a steady flow. Continuity Equation A 1 v 1 = A 2 v 2 A 1 = 1 st cross-sectional area A 2 = 2nd cross-sectional area v 1 = velocity in 1 st region v 2 = velocity in 2nd region

problem Fluid flows through a pipe with a radius of 4.0 cm with a velocity of.75 m/s. If the pipe’s radius is reduced to 3.0 cm, find the fluids velocity.

problem A 5.0 cm diameter pipe fills a.25 m 3 tank in 45 s. Find the speed of the fluid in the pipe. Volume = (πr 2 )vt

Bernoulli’s Principle The pressure in a fluid decreases as the fluid velocity increases. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCcZyW-6-5o
