2 Health Care Concerns Affordability and availability of care April 2009- Kaiser Health Tracking Poll: 6 in 10 Americans say that they or a member of their household have delayed or skipped health care in the past year.

3 National Health Care Since 1999, employment-based health insurance premiums have increased 120 %, compared to cumulative inflation of 44% Health insurance expenses - fastest growing cost component for employers. Average out-of-pocket costs for employees for deductibles, co-payments for medications, and co-insurance for physician and hospital visits rose 115 % during the same period.

4 City of Killeen Employee Health Insurance Since 1999, health insurance premiums have increased 73. 9%, compared to national increase of 120% Average out-of-pocket costs for employees for deductibles & co-insurance for physician and hospital visits increased. –Co-pays increased from $15 - $20

5 Employer Provided Health Care Employer-sponsors provide health insurance to the vast majority of workers and their families. Increasing costs in health insurance premiums pose challenges for employers Challenge -deciding how to continue to provide employee coverage.

6 Increasing Health Care Costs Chronic diseases account for about 70% of all U.S. deaths (Center for Preventive Medicine, 2009) Addressing health problems in the early stages, easier to treat & treatment is more effective. Preventive screenings, testing and follow-up are essential
