I Wish I Knew That! I wish I knew that you needed to turn your phone completely OFF! I had my birthday right in the middle of the school year. I was really excited, and got my first cell phone! I brought it to school in case I needed it. I thought that you just had to turn your phone on silent, so I left it on silent every day. One day, I was in first period and my phone rang. At first, I didn’t understand; it WAS on silent! I asked my teacher about this. During an Amber Alert (when a child is kidnapped), your phone rings even if it’s on silent. From that day forward, I turned my phone completely off every day and you should too!

Help! There will be a time where you will need help. Remember some of these helpful tips and you shouldn’t worry about a thing! Let’s call two of my dearest friends to help out. Their names are Billy Bob Joe and Amy. Let’s listen to some of their stories!

Help! Page 2 Amy was having a blast in science because she was doing her first experiment! All of the sudden, she heard he phone ring. She immediately froze and was VERY scared! She knew that she would get in trouble. She saw other people get their phone taken away and given to the office! So what did Amy do? 1. She calmed down 2. She gave her phone up; nothing else she could do! 3. She listened to the teacher and accepted responsibility 4. She eventually got her phone back and it was all over

Help! Page 3 Billy Bob Joe had a baseball game in about an hour. He had homework, but he would do it after the game. He didn’t want to waste his time doing his homework now! He needed to practice! After Billy Bob Joe’s game was over, it was time to shower and go to bed. He had no time to do his homework! During his class, the teacher asked for his homework. What did Billy Bob Joe do? 1. He told his teacher he forgot 2. He asked if he could turn it in tomorrow 3. He did his homework that night 4. He turned it in the next day. He had 10 points taken off, but it was better than a 0!

Help! Page 4 Amy was walking down the halls to her math class. All the sudden, a bully popped out and started bullying her! She didn’t know what to do; she couldn’t fight back or she would get in trouble! What did Amy do? 1. She told them to stop! 2. She walked away 3. She immediately told a teacher

Help! Page 5 Here are some questions that other people asked: What happens if I witness someone bully someone else? You immediately tell a teacher and they will take care of the problem. Don’t try to fight the bully. What happens if I witness someone bully someone else? You immediately tell a teacher and they will take care of the problem. Don’t try to fight the bully. What if I see someone on their phone? Let them stay on their phone. The teacher will take care of the situation. What if I see someone on their phone? Let them stay on their phone. The teacher will take care of the situation. What if I get lost? Find the nearest teacher and tell them what class you need to find. Most teachers know where every class in the school is. 10 Cause and Effect If you do your homework you will make good grades If you talk in class you will get silent lunch If you listen to the teacher you will know what you’re doing If you’re nice to other people they will be nice to you If you don’t do your homework you will get 10 points taken off

I Want to be Successful! To be a successful student at MMS, you must be willing to learn! This means you have to put all you can in your work. Even if you don’t want to do it, you have to do it anyway. Plus the majority of the time it will be fun! Also, have a set time scheduled to do your homework so you don’t make any other plans over that time. Have a set place to do your homework too. This is what I think it means to be a successful student at MMS!

How to Make Others Comfortable Making other people feel comfortable is just as important as making yourself feel comfortable. Here are some ways to do that: If you see someone alone at the lunch, ask them to sit with you! If you see someone alone at the lunch, ask them to sit with you! If someone doesn’t understand something that you do, try to help them out! If someone doesn’t understand something that you do, try to help them out! If someone tries out for something (a solo, a sports team, etc.) tell them they did a great job! If someone tries out for something (a solo, a sports team, etc.) tell them they did a great job! If you see someone who doesn’t have a group in group activities, invite them into your group! If you see someone who doesn’t have a group in group activities, invite them into your group! Encourage people to have fun! That’s what middle school is all about! Encourage people to have fun! That’s what middle school is all about!
