2 What is a fraction A fraction names a part of a whole object 1 2

3 Parts of a fraction.. 1 2 Numerator- the number written above the line in a common fraction to indicate the number of parts of the whole. Denominator- the number written below the line in a common fraction that indicates the number of parts into which one whole is divided.

4 Example… 1 2 1 piece is colored in purple. So, 1 of the 2 pieces are colored in.
