QUESTIONS TO GUIDE OUR WORK

4 “Research has shown that students’ understanding of just 55 ‘critical words’ contributes to 85% of success on standardized assessments that are aligned with Common Core” Marilee Sprenger, a noted expert on child literacy and brain development (http://www.marileesprenger.com/the-critical-words.html). Your turn:  On the back of the grid paper at your tables, number one to twenty.  Work with a partner or small group to list words you think are key to the process of your content area and/or the CCSS. 11 Investigation of PARCC Skills Directions: Go to www.PARCConline.org and search sample testwww.PARCConline.org Review the grade level test and consider the following:  What skills do students need to answer questions?  How does this link to the work in the media center in terms of material, curriculum and instruction?  What did you note about the language we previously studied? TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT PARCC: THE LANGUAGE IN ACTION
