Essential Questions for Unit Power: What rhetorical strategies in writing and speaking allow individuals to control and influence others? Politics: What causes conflict between among individuals and how can one utilize rhetoric to achieve what they want? Corruption: How might one misuse entrusted power for personal gain?

In this unit… -YOU will explore various politicians or influential leaders and their speeches. -YOU will examine their use of rhetorical strategies and study how they influence others. -YOU will then create your own speech practicing your rhetorical power and address politics.

Corruption As per Transparency International (TI - The Global Anti-Corruption Coalition ): Corruption is defined as – The misuse of entrusted power for private gain.

Causes of Corruption -Corruption is caused and increased because of the change in the value system and ethical qualities of men who administer power. -Election time is when corruption is at its peak; politicians and big corporations are pressured to meet their needs. As a result, there is a temptation to buy influence, commit bribery, and lose their moral compass.

In this unit… -YOU will explore the corruption within the Food Industry and politics of food within the government levels. You will do this by reading Fast Food Nation.
