4 History Was populated by people from Britain, Western and astern Europe and East and Southeast Asia 1 st peoples were Metis, Saulteaux. Assiniboine, Chippewa, and Ojibwa. Joined Confederation in 1870 Louis Riel is called the father of Manitoba

5 “The Emerald of the Prairies” Winnipeg The Emerald (Winnipeg) is the capitol of Manitoba The oldest city in the Prairie Provinces Has the Golden Boy (a statue that holds a torch in his right hand and wheat in the other) The first peoples in Winnipeg were the Saulteaux Winnipeg was a meeting place for Native Tribes GOLDEN BOY
