6 Writing about Nonfiction Information Choice of RAPT writing task 1.Finish the newscast writing from Thursday’s reading of “The Way North” article - Summarize one event from the article - Write the summary in an active voice, speaking directly to the audience (1 st person) to inform the audience about the event taking place in Texas. 7 You decide you want to go to college. Many colleges and universities ask you to write an essay when you apply. They always ask you to write an essay if you apply for a scholarship. They want to see what you’re like as person and whether or not you can write well.

8 Colleges often ask candidates to write an essay about… A.Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn? B.Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act or change your belief? Would you make the same decision again? C.Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you? D.Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family. Now we’re going to read a real college application essay by a guy named Andy and we will…. 1.Write the prompt that he responded to, even if it’s different from the above prompts. 2.Write Margin Notes: Annotate clues that PROVE which prompt Andy was given. RAPT 3.Write a RAPT response answering the question: What prompt did Andy respond to? 4.Use text evidence and a thorough explanation to prove you’re right.
