2  The camel fits in the mammal group.  Their scientific name is Camelus Dromedarius.  The camel’s lifespan is to 12-15 years.

Their humps are used to store body fat, which is converted to energy and water. It also absorbs extreme heat from water from the sun.

4  They live in the desert and semi-arid grasslands. The desert is very, very hot, sandy, and dry. Also the semi-arid grasslands has a lot of grass and very dry.  The camel lives in the desert which is very, very hot and some other camels live in the semi-arid grasslands which is hot also.

5  They eat grass, salty plants, and the cud of goats and cattle.  If it’s a plant, they just eat it, but if it’s and animal,(which is only goats and cattle) they only eat their cud.(cud is a thick mucus substance.)  The camel gives birth to live young.  A camel can only have one baby.

They don’t begin to sweat till their over 41 degrees.  One reason camels can go long periods without water is because of the shape of their blood cells. These are oval and will flow when their dehydrated.
