2. BIRDS
Birds have been flying for millions of years. In the early 1900’s inventors tried to copy birds flying in the sky. They invented kites and then gliders that Humans could fly. In 1783 the Montgolfier brothers launched the very first hot air balloon.

4. THE WRIGHT BROTHERS
In 1903 the Wright Brothers successfully took flight in their own plane in America. They had been working on gliders and using wood and maths they created the power to fly the first plane.

6. British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Brown made the first non-stop transatlantic flight in June They crashed in a field in Galway but they were not injured

7. COMMERICAL AIRPLANES
In the late 1920’s people started using Airplanes as a mode of transport. In they invented the style of plane we travel in today. Airplanes that have Jet engines and they run on fuel. This is a 1953 style plane.

8. Helicopter 1940 The first Helicopter was developed for passengers.
How does a helicopter fly? On a helicopter the wings are called rotor blades. The rotor blades have an aerofoil shape, curved on the top and flat on the bottom, just like the wings of an aeroplane. When the rotor blades rotate, the pressure of the air flowing under the blades is greater than the fast-moving air above them. The strong pressure below pushes the helicopter into the air, giving it the lift it needs to fly. To move up, down, forward or backward or to hover motionless in the air, the pilot changes the angle or tilt of the helicopter’s rotor blades. The tail rotor blade stops the helicopter from spinning around in a circle.

10. Biggest Airplane built in 2005
The largest passenger aircraft, (so far!) the double-decked, Airbus A380 can carry more than 800 passengers.

11. THE FUTURE
The airline company’s keep investing money to create new, faster, bigger and more energy efficient airplanes in the future.
