2 2 Objectives At the end of this presentation, you will be able to:

3 3 Recognize several symptoms that are caused by failures in the hard drive interface. Recognize the difference between a control malfunction and a data malfunction.

4 4 Precautions Turn off the equipment before making any hardware changes. After changing anything, reboot the computer so that the change can take effect.

14 14 Troubleshooting Process Substitute known-good keyboard. Try suspect keyboard on known-good computer. If problem is keyboard, replace or repair. If problem is in motherboard, replace or repair.

16 16 Troubleshooting Process Try cleaning the keyboard. Blow out with compressed air or vacuum with static-safe vacuum cleaner. Weigh your time and chances of success against the cost of a new keyboard.
