It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.”(ESV) Leviticus 10:9 "You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. Who has bloodshot eyes? 30 Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. 31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! 32 In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.

12 The Bible Is Totally Clear…
Drunkenness Is A Sin That Can Bring Me, You, & Others To Hell 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:21 God’s People, Especially Young Men, Must Be Sober-Minded 1 Thessalonians 5:8, Titus 2:6 Wine, Strong Drink, & Intoxication Are Foolish Proverbs 20:1 Titus 2:6 – It is no accident that God specifically repeats the importance of this command to young men. There is something about having fun with a little bit of danger and irresponsibilty to spice things up that is particularly appealing to most young men. God is reminding us to resist the tendency to go a little crazy. He is reminding us to BE SENSIBLE IN ALL THINGS. If we are NOT sober-minded then we are sinning.

13 The used of wine or alcohol in the Bible is for medical purpose:
Proverbs 31:6-7 “Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; 7 let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.” 1 Timothy 5:23 “Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.”

14 God’s Loving Warnings…
Alcohol In Any Form & Any Amount Should Be Considered Dangerous Proverbs 23:29-35 Alcohol Has The Potential To Produce Devastating Consequences Sorrow, Personal Destruction, Contention, Deception, Poverty, Loss of Self Control, Physical Injury, Immorality, Inappropriate Speech, Injustice, Hell Vs. 29 – Physical & Emotional Consequences Vs. 30 – The Danger Exist Despite The Intensity of the Drink (A lot: “Linger Long” & A little “mixed wine”) Vs. 31 – Do Not Look Upon It Longingly Vs. 32 – The Consequences & Pain Are Delayed (Sometimes to the next morning, Sometimes not until late in life when it becomes an addiction, a medical problem, or a source of pain for a future child or grandchild.) Vs. 33 – Your Vision & Thinking Will Be Diminished Vs. 34 – You will eventually get drunk with all the accompanying nausea, diziness, and exhaustion Vs. 35 – Your senses will be diminished and you will become addicted. THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANY MODERN CHRISTIAN TO PLAY WITH THAT KIND OF FIRE!!!!

15 Reasons To Choose Not To Drink…
Because The Bible Teaches Me… To Stay Focused On My Path With God To Set A Blameless Example, With No Stumbling Blocks for My Family & Brethren To Set A Blameless Example In My Culture To Avoid Drinking Parties To Avoid The Deeds of the Flesh To Be The Best Possible Leader I Can Be To Submit To The Law To Find Joy, Strength, Courage, & Fun In Godly Pursuits, Not The Temporary Pleasures of Alcohol To Know The Exception & Live By The Rule! …Socially, Privately or To Get Drunk Find Joy In Godly Pursuits: Ephesians 5:17-18 Exception: Matthew 5:32, Leviticus 16

16 A Final Word of Caution…
Don’t Avoid Drinking, Only To Become Guilty of Making & Breaking A Rash Vow Matthew 5:33-37, 1 Corinthians 5:10 Don’t Avoid Drinking, Only To Become Guilty of Adding To God’s Laws “Wouldn’t it be better if…” Matthew 12:10-14 Don’t Avoid Drinking, Only To Become Guilty of Judging The Hearts of Others 1 Corinthians 2:11, Matthew 7:1-5, 11:19 Don’t Refrain From One Sin Only To Commit Another… Breaking A Rash Vow: I won’t do anything, that in any way is connected to drinking – no restaurants that serve it, no stores that sell it, no people who drink it. You can’t go out of the world. Adding To God’s Laws: Phillip you did a great job showing us how terrible it is to drink and all the aweful consequencs, but you never came out and specifically said “All drinking is a sin.” Phillip your lesson was really good, but don’t you think it would just be better to teach everyone that it is just always sinful, then they won’t ever do it? No it is NOT BETTER! We can’t improve on God’s Word! It is written by the absolute perfect, divine mind of GOD! So if GOD leaves a little room for personal judgment and personal application then I’ve got to leave that room as well. God’s word is clear enough that those who want to diligently pursue righteousness can make wise judgments. And God’s word is clear enough that those who are selfish, foolish, or just plain reckless will be justly condemned. God doesn’t need me to make up my own rules, because what inevitably happens when PEOPLE start making up the rules is that our rules don’t take into account some future situation. We just don’t have the smarts to take everything into account the way God does. Not oly do our rules fail to account for those unforseeable situations, but our rules bring division rather than unity. So, no it is definitly NOT better to add to God’s laws. God’s laws are perfect just as they are! Third Trap Satan will set for you is in the heart. You may never make a vow, you may never make a law, but He would love to get you to make a judgment – Satan would love for you to think – “That Guy having a glass of wine with his meal is EVIL, those people using wine in the Lord’s Supper are FOOLS, that man sitting with those sinners is JUST AS BAD AS THEY ARE!” This is exactly how Satan got the Pharisees to condemn Jesus: that man sitting with those sinners is NOT MY SAVIOR! If like me you choose not to drink then GREAT! I am very happy – but don’t let this become an occasion for Satan to trap you in one of these other ways!

17 Conclusion Judges 13:4 “Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean.” Let us take seriously all of these warnings so that we avoid the dangers God warns us about from alcohol. Let us be filled with the Spirit!
