Long ago, a pommelo and an orange accidently got their pollen mixed together. This created a hybrid fruit. What is the name of this new fruit? + =

6 Just the Facts A farmer in Jamaica called this new fruit grapefruit because of the way it grew in clusters, like grapes, but on a tree.

7 Grapefruit was grown in the Caribbean in the 1700s and was sometimes called the “forbidden fruit”.

Grapefruit trees like warm weather. California is perfect for growing grapefruit. California has many different farming areas with different climates. Farmers can grow grapefruit all year long.

15 Tasting Trio- Spicy Grapefruit
Ingredients One 20 ounce can of grapefruit in 100% juice 1 pound bag of diced jicama ¼ teaspoon chili powder Preparation Drain grapefruit, reserving ¼ cup of the juice. Add all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and gently toss together. Place into bowls for each group. Each student puts 2 tablespoons in a small cup. Eat immediately.
