2 2 Background The body rhythms of a baby are led by mother inutero After delivery baby learns to adapt to new environment Also learns to sleep through night

3 3 Background Baby’s body systems mature at different rates Sleep is an external marker for this What helps a baby learn how to sleep?

4 4 Background Temperature measurements can help monitor how a baby is maturing body systems Measurements can be made of sleep hormone Melatonin There are also genes that ‘switch on’ body clock that can be taken from simple swabs

5 5 Development of maximum fall in overnight core temperature with age for four infants

6 6 Baby Clock GENES study Are small babies different in sleep patterns and control? Does how a mother looks after her baby help with this process? How closely in tune is a mother to her baby during sleep?

7 7 Baby Clock GENES study We would like your help in gathering important information about baby sleep patterns Learning how individual babies do this differently will help find important clues for groups of babies who are more likely to get unwell
