8. 1. What do we mean by Conversion?
It means that with the Grace of God, we can gain the strength to turn away from sin and turn back to God.
The first step in converting is to acknowledge and or admit that we have sinned or turned from the path that God wants us to take in order to live a full life.

9. List and explain the 2 kinds of sin.
Mortal sin (very serious)
Venial sin (less serious)

10. For a Sin to be Mortal:
Grave matter needs to be present which means that whatever grave sin we committed, it needs to be objectively grave e.g. adultery, murder, theft, jealousy, etc…
Full Knowledge needs to be present, meaning that you are fully aware of what you were doing when you committed this sin.
Full consent needs to be present, meaning you acted by your own will, freely.

11. Contrition
Consists of being sorry for our sins, along with the plan to not sin again. – it comes from being truly sorry. 2 Types of Contrition Perfect contrition - repentance for sin that is motivated by faith and the love of God. Imperfect contrition – is a desire not to sin for a reason other than love of God (e.g. fear of hell).

13. The Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life.

14. Satisfaction
Satisfaction has to do with “making up for” the harmful effects of our sins, both to ourselves and to others.

15. Penance
The priest assigns a penance to help us begin our journey back to spiritual health. The prayers are designed to help open our hearts to God’s healing grace.
