Be Still Pastor Timothy Hinkle May 15, 2011

2 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
1 God is our refuge and strength,          A very present help in trouble.  2 Therefore we will not fear,          Even though the earth be removed,           And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,          Though the mountains shake with its swelling.  Selah

4   Selah סלה selâh seh'-law suspension (of music), that is, pause

5 Examples in Scripture We see several times in scripture where Jesus needed to “get away” from the multitudes to strengthen Himself. We see Jesus rising early in the morning to pray. We know that King David mediated on the Lord and His Word day and night as evidenced in the Psalm

6 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
1 God is our refuge and strength,          A very present help in trouble.  2 Therefore we will not fear,          Even though the earth be removed,           And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

7 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,          Though the mountains shake with its swelling.  Selah

8  4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,          The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.  5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;          God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

9 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
 6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;          He uttered His voice, the earth melted.             7 The LORD of hosts is with us;          The God of Jacob is our refuge.  Selah

10 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,          Who has made desolations in the earth.  9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;          He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;           He burns the chariot in the fire.

11 Psalm 46 (New King James Version)
 10 Be still, and know that I am God;          I will be exalted among the nations,           I will be exalted in the earth!             11 The LORD of hosts is with us;          The God of Jacob is our refuge.  Selah

12 Fast-Paced Word The world that we live in today is constantly saying, “DO SOMETHING!” We live in an age where we are not only always doing something, we are doing multiple “somethings” at once. The Holy Spirit is beckoning to us. He is staying, “STOP!”

13 God Speaks to US 1 Kings 19:11-13 (New King James Version) 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;

14 God Speaks to Us  12and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.  13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

15 What is God Saying? First, He is saying, “BE STILL”
Second, He is saying, “I AM GOD” When we stop “doing” and BE STILL, we are able to hear what the Father is saying to us Then we will find comfort Then we will find direction Then we will find all that we need
