More About the League 160+ Staff; one of the Largest in Nation Work Closely with National League of Cities Hold Annual Conference every August; Legislative Conference each November Only a general-purpose government providing municipal services can join the League; most do every year

League Governance Board comprised of 3 officers; past presidents; district directors from 14 districts and 2 other seats Elected for one year Appoint executive director each year Board sets League policies and is guided by Strategic Plan

FLC Legislative Process Policy Committees Consider State Legislative Positions Federal, Commemorative Resolutions go to Resolutions Committee FLC Goal: Year-round Advocacy President appoints Legislative Committees

Business at the Conference Five Policy Committees Met Today - more work in the Fall. Business Session Saturday: Voting Delegates consider resolutions, elections, other business—only one delegate per municipality (if you have questions about your city’s delegate: check at registration)

Other Conference Events Concurrent Workshops: 4 Rounds Friday; 1 session Saturday General & Plenary Sessions: Hear Keynote Speakers Networking all day Friday – room available Luncheon and Installation of President on Saturday; Closing Event Saturday night

Getting the Most out of the Conference Attend everything you can – plan your day with the “At a Glance” Ask staff (ribbons) questions Sit with folks you don’t know—meet new people! Order recordings for sessions you missed Web site will have hand-outs next week Share what you learn when you get home!

Resource Center - Friday Has information from state and federal agencies, plus regional entities Grants, technical assistance, new programs – this is the showcase! Preview a copy of the FLC Resource book, which is mailed to every city in mid-August Talk one-on-one with state and federal agency representatives

Conference Tips Wear your badge EVERYWHERE. Keep your program handy! Sit with people you don’t know – networking matters! Come by Registration Desk with Questions
