I can simplify rational expressions and identify values excluded from the domain of a rational function

 A rational number is a number that can be expressed exactly as a ratio of two integers. Examples 0.5

 A mathematical expression is a group of numbers and/or variables grouped together using operators (+,-,*,/)  Examples: a+b a-b 3x 2x+ 3y-6

 So a rational number is basically a fraction or a number that can be expressed as a fraction and an expression is a bunch of numbers and/or symbols grouped together Rational Expression: A fraction made up of rational expressions

A rational expression is in simplest form when: All common factors from the numerator and denominator have been cancelled.

1. Factor the numerator and denominator 2. Determine excluded values 3. Cross out common factors 4. Write the simplified expression and excluded values.
