You have just joined the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, uniting computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources and address the field’s challenges. This presentation will help you navigate your way around the ACM.

2 You’ve Just Joined ACM: What Should You Do? 1.Make sure you provide us with your *real* email address (as opposed to your “acm.org” email forwarding address); most of our Customer Service Representatives’ contact with members is via email. Need help? acmhelp@acm.org.acmhelp@acm.org 2.You need to create a *free* ACM Web Account in order to access many of ACM’s online services, e.g., the ACM Digital Library, online books and courses, myACM, etc. To create an account, go to myACM (under the ACM logo) and click on “Web Account.” 3. You might have completed a Technical Interest Profile (TIP) when you first joined, but if not, you should complete one now [HOW?] ACM will use your Profile information to customize your *monthly* Technical Interest Profile Alerts; these alerts will provide you with information about articles from the Digital Library, Special Interest Group Conferences, online books and courses that match your technical interests.

3 You’ve Just Joined ACM: What Will You Receive? When you join ACM, you will receive: –A Welcome email message thanking you for your membership that includes your member number, and information about how you can set your spam filtering using the Postini service. –A link to the Technical Interest Profile (TIP) if you did not complete it when you joined. –An email alert for ACM’s 3x weekly e-news digest TechNews within your first month of joining; this is one of ACM’s most popular benefits. –An email alert for ACM’s monthly membership e-newsletter MemberNet, within your first month of joining. –An email alert for ACM’s bi-monthly e-career digest CareerNews within your second month of joining.

7 You’ve Just Joined ACM: Get Acquainted with myACM Get acquainted with myACM, your ACM navigator and control center for managing your membership services: After logging into myACM, https://www.myacm.org/dashboard.cfm, view your:https://www.myacm.org/dashboard.cfm Membership service dates - anniversary date (“member since” date) & membership expiration date; Special Interest Group Memberships (if any), publication subscriptions (if any); Digital Library subscription (if any); Member number, contact information, Technical Interest Profile, and your Personal Customer Service Representative; Email, Postal, & Survey restrictions Your web account information; email forwarding address, links to postini filtering service provided by ACM; Listservs you subscribe to, have unsubscribed from, and can subscribe to; Link to the digital edition of Communications of the ACM; E-Alerts for subscriptions available in digital format; Virtual Business Card or your “permanent URL” within “acm.org” Shared and/or created virtual binders (citations from the DL chosen manually or by a automated saved search

Get acquainted with myACM, your ACM navigator and control center for finding opportunities to engage with ACM: –TOCs: Consider subscribing to ACMS Table-of-Contents Service so you can keep up-to-date with what’s being published in any of ACM’s journals, magazines, Special Interest Group conference proceedings and newsletters. –Online Books Program/Books24x7: Access the ACM collection of 500 books; take the virtual tour familiarizing you how the collection is categorized, search techniques; choose your desired view for your Books24x7 “My home folder” – recommended books, top titles, what’s new, etc. –Online Books Program/Safari: Access the ACM collection, 600 books; find out about the top technology books, top business books, and what’s new, their enhanced search results page providing results from four tabs – Books, Videos, Safari Guides, and Articles. You can get an overview of the books published by O’Reilly, Prentice Hall, Addison-Wesley, Microsoft Press, Peachpit Press, Adobe Press, IBM Press, Course Technology, etc. –Online Courses Program/SkillSoft: Access to 3,000+ online courses from SkillSoft. 10 You’ve Just Joined ACM: What Will You Receive? Your first issue of Communications of the ACM (CACM), ACM’s membership magazine, should arrive within 6-8 weeks from the start of your membership. The digital edition of CACM will be posted in myACM even before the beginning of the month! You will receive monthly email Technical Interest Profile (TIP) Alerts providing you with articles from the Digital Library, publications, conferences, special interest groups, online books and courses, matched to your technical interests. During your membership year, you will receive several email Member Bulletins announcing items of interest to ACM Members and the computing community, for example: new and/or enhanced member benefits, ACM award winners, new ACM officers, computing policy issues, new ACM awards,
