TGF Deliverables approved so far 2 © Peter F Brown, 2012 All Rights Reserved TGF Pattern Language Core Patterns OASIS Standard TGF Primer Committee Note TGF Tools and Models for the Business Management Framework Committee Note

“TGF Framework” today 3 © Peter F Brown, 2012 All Rights Reserved P1P1 P2P2 P3P3 P 20... Set of 20 existing Patterns in TGF Pattern Language TGF Primer + P1P1 Set of 20 patterns in one approved document and… …detailed explanatory text (largely supporting the patterns) in another approved document Individual patterns are not autonomous… …and supporting text is disconnected

“TGF Framework” today - disadvantages ►Difficult to focus and gain overview: ►Reader is forced to look at two documents ►Makes “modular” consumption more difficult ►Someone interested only in a single pattern, for example, needs to dig that out of a larger document ►Makes version control more difficult ►Need to make parallel changes in two documents –still finding inconsistencies between Patterns and Primer. ►A change to a single “pattern” requires an update to entire document 4 © Peter F Brown, 2012 All Rights Reserved

TGF Framework tomorrow? One approach… 5 © Peter F Brown, 2012 All Rights Reserved P1P1 P 20... P1P1 Take each pattern from Core Patterns… …together with respective supporting text from Primer… P2P2 P3P3... P 20... PnPn …to create a TGF v2 as a single OASIS Deliverable …and new supporting texts… + = PnPn …and possible new patterns…

Possible more complete approach 6 …and create a master ‘TGF Framework’ document (and maintain this as an OASIS Committee Note) that serves also as an “informal pattern catalog” Take each pattern… PnPn …with supporting text… PnPn P3P3 P2P2 P1P1 Create new OASIS Deliverables (CN, CS, or OS) by combining sets of patterns as “market” requires…... Firstly… …and then… Governance of ITCAMSS …

Advantages of this approach ►Modularity ►Allows TC to be more responsive in creating new deliverables ►There can still be a master “TGF Framework” document in which individual patterns are catalogued and easily identifiable ►Opportunity for “pick ‘n’ mix” of patterns to create appropriate deliverables ►Some ‘constituencies’ may require deliverables with more stringent conformance terms (and use the OASIS standards-track process); ►others may require a more policy or guideline focus (where the Committee Note process may suffice) ►No changes required to OASIS processes 7 © Peter F Brown, 2012 All Rights Reserved
