2. 2 About the Book  Recently I have finished a very good book called Tales From the Browns Sideline. In the book the author, Tony Grossi (Grossi works for the Plain Dealer and has covered the Browns since 1984) and players tell stories of their experience with the Browns. It’s exciting to hear the players’ opinion.

3. 3 The Beginning In 1946 Paul Brown Founded a new team, the Cleveland Browns. He signed one of the best quarter backs of the 40s and 50s, Otto Graham. Graham had a strong arm but he could run well too. Brown also had a very good wide receiver in Dante Lavelli. Brown and his team won six championships from 1946-1956.

4. 4 1960s In 1961 Paul Brown was fired by Art Modell (the owner). The new coach was Blanton Collier. Then, in 1964 the Browns won their last championship with the help of one of the greatest running backs of all time, Jimmy Brown. Dr. Frank Ryan (number 13 in the photo) also completed three touchdown passes to Gary Collins to upset the Baltimore Colts.

5. 5 1970s Even though the Browns didn’t win any championships in the 70s the still got key players like, Clay Matthews, Ozzie Newsome, Brian Sipe, and Leroy Kelly. The Browns also hired coach Sam Ratigliono.

6. 6 Conclusion  As a Browns fan, loved reading this book. It gives great information and detail. I think it’s very cool to hear old stories first hand from the players. The book really makes you feel a part of the team.

7. 7 1980s  In 1980 the Browns were nicknamed the “Kardiac Kids” because most of the games, came down to the final two minuets of the game. The Browns made it to the AFC wildcard game against the Raiders. But on the last drive, the Browns were down two. They decided that they would throw it into the end zone one more time instead of the field goal. Brian Sipe threw an interception and the game was over. The Browns got to the AFC championship three times in the late 80s but were rejected all three times by the Broncos.

8. 8 1990-2000  The Browns were not very good in the 90s. Bill Belichick was the head coach and a lot of players didn’t like him. Then Art Modell said he was going to move the team to Baltimore. From 1995-1998 there was no pro football in Cleveland. In 1999 the Browns came back. Although they weren't very good. The Browns have stayed that way ever since.
