6 Sociology 12  Sociology 12 is the scientific study of human society and interaction. The central focus is on providing a deeper understanding of the social groups in society in which humans live. The course provides students with an enhanced understanding of human behaviour—their own and the others with whom they interact on a daily basis—as well as a firm foundation of pursuit of further studies in behavioural sciences at the post-secondary level.

7 Sociology 12  Sociology’s key concepts reflect its assumption that the characteristics most associated with human beings develop and are continuously shaped primarily through our interactions with others. Thus, sociology seeks to explain individual behaviour by examining it in the social context in which it occurs.

11 Tips to get the most out of High School English/Sociology  HOMEWORK: Students should be reviewing their lessons daily. Students who study and review their class work are more prepared for Unit Exams and will likely be more successful on their Final Exam.  HIGH STANDARDS: Students must work very hard to achieve high grades in High School. The average final marks in NS are not in the 90’s, but closer to 70’s – 80’s. Final Exams/Projects are difficult and must be approached as such. A mark of 80 must be noted as being an exceptional grade.

12 More tips:  Reading: Students are expected to read a lot in English and should also be prepared to re- read the material more than once. This not only will help students understand the material better, but it will also enhance their vocabulary and reading skills.  Participation: Sociology 12 needs communication to function well, so students must get involved. Students’ participation is part of their overall grade and makes the learning experience much more enjoyable.
