2 Capacity Building for Control Systems Security Collaborative Project  Capacity building project funded by NSF under Grant # 1515636  Collaboration between JSU and Snead State Community College  3-year project (9/1/2015—08/31/2018)  Part of the CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service (SFS) program

3 Project Objectives  Design and implement control system security curriculum modules;  Offer 2-day faculty development workshops on control systems security and follow-up 1-day symposia;  Provide cost-effective resources to enable teachers to develop content, pedagogical knowledge, and skills on cyber and control system security;

4 Project Objectives  Evaluate teaching and learning effectiveness on the control system security curriculum;  Devise tools to facilitate the sharing of teaching expertise and curriculum modules for widespread adoption across national setting; and  Design and implement a virtual and distributed control system testbed for cybersecurity competitions and experimentations.

5 Timeline  October, 2015-January, 2016--Call for participation  January 31, 2016—Application Deadline  February, 2016—Notification of application status  Workshop dates--June 23-24, 2016 at JSU  Symposium date—October, 2016 at JSU

6 Application Process  Application packet: completed application form, department head letter of support, and a statement of interest describing: ○ The relevance of control system security ○ Experience in teaching information security and/or control systems; and ○ Commitment to adopt the control system security modules in relevant courses.

8 Participant Benefits  Each participant will receive: Professional development Control System Security Toolkit (Hardware+ Software worth $650) $1,000 stipend $430 travel allowance Packet of pedagogical materials consisting of control system security course modules and laboratory exercises Applicable Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and certificate of attendance

9 Participation Constraints  Limited to 4-year and 2-year college instructors  Each participant will commit to adopt the control systems security curriculum modules in classes, collect survey data for project evaluation, participate in a 1-day symposium in October, and Submit a final report  Limited to 10 participants each year  Stipend is disbursed in 3 installments

11 Ongoing Research Activities in the CISAL @ JSU  Continuous security monitoring of industrial control systems through real-time analytics  Visualization of control systems security  Data collection and aggregation of security data  Pro-active cyber defense through deep packet inspection and threat intelligence  Control systems security curriculum development
