3 The Web Web browsers are actually a form of GUI Web pages are created with HTML code that is translated by browsers Web pages have specific URLs or addresses More than one Web page together makes a Web site

4 Dissection of a URL http://www.eric.ed.gov/resources/index.html URLs start with http:// to initiate the hypertext transfer protocol used by web sites. The domain name tells the browser to look for the ERIC server on the web site of the U.S. Dept. of Education. This part of the URL tells the browser to look in the Resources folder on the eric.gov web server. This part of the URL tells the document to be found in the Resource folder.

7 Search Engines Examples: www.yahoo.comwww.yahoo.com www.google.com When doing searches, it is important to know how to search for topics. Start with a broad topic description then work to limit your search. If one starts a search with too specific a search they may not find what they are looking for or may miss a valuable web site.
